To vote in North Carolina, you must:

  • Be a U.S. citizen
  • Be a resident of North Carolina
  • Live in the county where you will vote for at least 30 days
  • Be registered to vote
  • If you have been convicted of a felony, you must have finished serving your time, have finished probation and finished all supervised release
  • Ex-offenders must re-register to vote
  • College students can vote at home or where they attend school, but must register and vote in the same place.  Students, military and Americans living overseas, can vote by Absentee Ballot.  (Get an Absentee Ballot from the Board of Elections or online.)
